Treks

"The way to heaven is on horseback.” ~ Anonymous

Our horses are each strong individuals with personalities as varied and complicated as our guests!

Our friendly and helpful staff take care to match each of our guests with the right horse (and each of our horses with the right guest) for the best possible experience.

Our treks offer intimate interaction with native bushland, local flora and wild birdlife, panoramic views of Bream Bay countryside and ocean, all to the rhythm of a gentle horse-walk. Join us in the wide open expanses of the rural Winterless North for an unforgettable and uplifting adventure.

So that you can devote your attention wholly to enjoying the Waipu Horse Adventure experience, our guides will take photos throughout the day for you. Following your trek, these keepsakes will be sent through to you electronically. For group treks and celebrations, we can arrange fun group photo-shoots with the horses and miniature horses Tim and Tam.

We offer a selection of curated horse treks to please all ability levels. Read on to find out which trek package is right for you.

Riding Rules

Please read through our Terms & Conditions below before joining us on a trek.

These Riding Rules are for the health and safety of you, our staff and our horses.

  1. Helmets must be worn whilst mounted on a horse. We provide helmets for all riders. Under the health and safety act, you are required to wear a helmet whilst mounted no exceptions and regardless of religious or cultural reasons. However, you may wear any headwear under your helmet so long as the helmet can be adequately secured.
  2. Closed-toe shoes are a must to minimise injury due to being stood on by a horse. They also make it easier to ride.
  3. No flapping clothing please. We require that you fasten jackets or tuck in other clothing that may flap, as this can potentially spook the horses.
  4. No backpacks or similar items that could scare horses or alter your balance whilst riding.
  5. Please make sure personal property such as phones, car keys, sunglasses, etc. are secure before mounting as they can easily fall out or off whilst mounted.
  6. All treks are guided. Please follow the instructions of your guide at all times as it is their job to keep you safe and offer you the best possible experience. Do not canter or trot unless instructed to do so.
  7. Please be mindful to follow instructions to keep all group members safe. Prior to commencing your trek, we provide a full demonstration of how to mount and ride your horse. If there is anything you are unsure about we are happy to answer your questions and help in any way.
  8. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your ride time otherwise your booking may be forfeited. If for some reason beyond your control you will be late, please inform us as soon as possible.
  9. Please leave gates as you find them. This is farm etiquette and a safety essential. If a gate is closed when you pass through it, please close it behind you.
  10. No shouting, screaming or any loud sudden movements as this can scare horses.
  11. Please inform us upon making your booking of any disabilities or health concerns that may impact your safety so we can make appropriate provisions for you.
  12. We require all payments to be processed prior to commencing your trek
